Bobby Gene Smith

Bobby Gene Smith, 66 of Marine, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at his residence with his family by his side. Bobby was born on August 25, 1956, in Murray, Kentucky to the late Billie Gene and Doris Irene (nee Oliver) Smith. He graduated Jefferson High School in 1974, Indiana University in 1980, and Washington University in 1990. He retired from the CIA as a Cyber Security Specialist. Bobby earned his private pilot license. He enjoyed home improvement projects, riding his bike but most of all spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Smith; honorary son, Clinton Jones; father-in-law, Joseph Ballew; brother-in-law, Sam Ballew; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Meyer and Margaret Payton; and niece, Jamie Smith. Surviving are his loving wife, Debra Irene (nee Ballew) Smith, whom he married March 28, 1981; two sons, Brent Alexander (Tricia) Smith of O’Fallon, Illinois and Mark Andrew (Lauren) Smith of Glen Carbon, Illinois ; honorary daughter-in-law, Sara Jones of Fenton, Missouri; 10 grandchildren: Austin Smith, Andrew Smith, Kieran Smith, Jack Smith, Alexis Smith, Audrey Smith, Harper Smith, Troy Jones, Tori Jones and Taylor Jones; three brothers, David (Jennifer) Smith of Richmond, Kentucky, John Smith of Sellersburg, Indiana and Bradley Smith of Jeffersonville, Indiana; paternal aunt, Gayle Marsh of Huntington Beach, California as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation will be 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Illinois. An additional memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150 with a memorial service at 12:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road with inurnment to follow at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
