Carol Van Hoozer Grantz, of Floyds Knobs, IN., passed away peacefully at The Villas of Guerin Woods, in Georgetown, IN. on August 1, 2022. She was 82. Her love, grace, and beautiful spirit will be missed by many, but she will never be forgotten. Carol’s bright light will shine on through her family, friends, loved ones, and through the many students she taught over the years. Born on June 18, 1940 in Louisville, to the late Samuel Huls and Suemantha Elizabeth Van Hoozer, Carol attended Presentation Academy where she graduated in 1958. She went on to study at Nazareth College, known today as Spalding University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education in 1963. Later, in 1990, she earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University Southeast. Carol always had a special way with children. Teaching was her passion and calling in life. She last taught at Community Catholic School in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville until she retired in 2000. When Carol wasn’t teaching, one of her favorite hobbies was arts and crafts. She was a very talented self-taught painter. In the 1980s, Carol and a few of her friends opened The Gingerbread House in New Albany. The small boutique craft store specialized in one-of-a-kind handmade gifts. Mom always loved making special things for her family. Halloween and Christmas decorations were her favorites. In the fall of 1963, Carol met the love of her life, Tony Grantz. The two were inseparable from the very beginning. Whenever you saw Carol, you always knew her Tony wasn’t far behind. The two married on April 30, 1966 at Holy Name Catholic Church. For the next 56+ years, their love and devotion for one another saw them through the highs and lows of life. Tony was Carol’s rock. He never left her side. Our beloved Carol is survived by Tony, their two children, Melissa Grantz Anderson (Monty) and David Grantz (fiancée, Erica McDowell), and her two grandsons, Grant (fiancée Aubrey Adams) and Alex Anderson. Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring St., New Albany, IN on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday August 9, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
