Cecilia Anne Hughes, affectionately known as Cece, a beacon of love and passion, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on May 24, 1965, in Arlington, Virginia, Cece was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth touched everyone she met.
Cece's early years were filled with joy and laughter, shared with her late parents, David and Judith Duffy. She carried that joy with her throughout life, enriching the lives of those around her. Cece's heart found its match in Thomas Hughes, her loving husband, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with love and mutual respect. Together, they raised a family that includes their daughter Cindy Goins, married to Matt; their son Josh Hughes, married to Ginny; and their son Justin Hughes. Cece was preceded in death by her beloved son, Alexander David Hughes, whose memory remained a guiding light in her life.
Her role as a grandmother to Miles Goins was one Cece embraced with enthusiasm, showering him with the same boundless love she gave to all her family. Her sisters, Carrie Duffy-Nigg, with her husband Terry, and Katie Duffy, with her husband Bill Spond, will miss Cece's unwavering support and infectious spirit. Cece's many beloved nieces and nephews knew her as a constant presence in their lives, always there to celebrate their triumphs and comfort them in times of need.
Cece was a proud alumna of Spalding University's Nursing Program, which laid the foundation for her distinguished career as a nurse at Norton Children's Hospital. For over 35 years, she dedicated herself to the well-being of her young patients, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the families she served. Her compassion and commitment to nursing were not just her profession but her calling.
Beyond her professional achievements, Cece was known for her vivacious personality and her love of life's simple pleasures. As the number one fan of the Crashers, she rarely missed an opportunity to support her favorite band. Her love for travel was evident in her numerous cruises, and she found tranquility in sitting on the beach, losing herself in a good book. She was a wonderful host, always willing to have family and friends over to celebrate every occasion.
Those who knew Cece will remember a woman who lived her life with passion and love. She approached every day with a sense of purpose, whether caring for her patients or nurturing her family. Cece's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the memories she created will continue to inspire and comfort all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
