

Donald C. Belcher passed away on July 2, 2022 at the age of 89 in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born to Claude and Blanche Belcher on February 2, 1933. He attended New Albany High School and was a natural athlete at playing basketball. As a stand out basketball player he was recruited in 1950 by several universities. Don decided to attend LSU, where he played basketball from 1951 to 1955. He helped the “Tigers” sweep the 1952-1953 SEC regular season followed by reaching the first NCAA Final Four appearance in LSU history. He graduated with a bachelor degree from LSU and a master’s degree from Indiana University in education. He was a lifelong educator in Indianapolis. Don loved his country and was a Captain in the United States Air Force where he was stationed several years in Korea.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Parks and Kevin Parks (husband), Dana Banta and Michael Banta (husband); sister, Denola Prestien and Scott Prestien (husband); grandsons, Brandon Park, Tyler Parks and Jenna Parks (wife); granddaughters, Tiffany Parks, Gabriela Stanley and Michael Stanley (husband), Victoria Knapp and Brain Knapp (husband); four great grandchildren; son-in-law, Stefano DiMarco; longtime girlfriend, Jan Holland.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Lisa DiMarco.
A visitation for Don will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150, followed by a funeral service with military honors at 12:00 PM.
Don will be laid to rest in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
