My deepest sympathy for the family.  A great loss for our community and youth.   

I first met Mr Doug and jobcorps . He was a wonderful,  caring man . He used to always make sure I had a way home on weekend pass, When I started my job, he made sure I had a lunch every day. Even after jobcorps We still kept in contact like even A few weeks ago he was willing to sell me his car because I need one so bad. Every time we talked, it felt like no time has passed. You will forever be in my heart Mr Doug

My heart is at a loss for words. I remember when I first talked to Mr. Doug  about potentially working at Job Corps. We had an amazing conversation and I could immediately sense his passion for the youth and wanting to make a difference. After bringing him on board, our relationship just continued to grow. His heart, support, encouragement, and wisdom were like no other. I will never take for granted the time spent with him as well as our relationship. I called him my grandpa Doug. He was family. I'm truly blessed to have known him. ❤️

My heart is aching at the loss of this wonderful step brother.  He was always so kind and accepted me into his family as a step brother.  He was always there for my wife and me, as well as for my father.  I have lots of fond memories, and with amusement, always loved the oysters he brought every Thanksgiving.   My thoughts and prayers are there for Melody, Mac, Connie, and the boys.  RIP, Dougie-you have earned it. 

Doug was a great cousin and while we did not see him often, we remember his wonderful smile and laugh! He was great at remembering family stories to share with all of us. Pop and Grandma Brown would be proud of the life he lived and especially of his time with Job Core. He will be missed by those in his family, his community and beyond.

Douglas Abercrombie was a wonderful man who loved his wife of 51 years, his family and everyone at Whitney M. Young; no matter who you were. Above all, Mr. Doug supported his team at Post; that made sure that we were all safely transported to and from locations as needed. Later, he was proud to teach Drivers Education and watch as students achieved another life opportunity. Mr. Doug mentored many students and staff while at Job Corps and afterwards; he truly loved and cared for anyone who was willing to work hard, learn and strive to be better themself. Mr. Doug was a man that I can say was a true friend and I am privileged to have known. He will be missed. To all the students that I had the privilege to be part of your life, please continue to strive to be the best that you can be, love your family and friends, and always smile and greet everyone who passes your path. Make Mr. Doug proud. Rest in peace my friend. You may be in heaven but will never be forgotten here on earth.

Doug and Melody are not family but they treated me and other fellow soldiers like we were their children.  Any time we were at Ft Knox, Mac would take us to visit them for dinner and fellowship.  Doug always told us, "It doesn't matter if Mac isn't with you!  Come by anyways and we'll have a hot meal ready for you"!  Good people are sometimes hard to find, but I can tell you without hesitation, the Abercrombie family of New Albany are some good people!  Mac, Melody, you were beyond blessed to have a great guy like Douglas Abercrombie in your lives, and even better, the Patriarch of your family.  Rest well Big Doug!

I’m saddened to hear about the passing of Mr.doug he was & amazing person with a awesome personality & he will be missed condolences to his wife , family ,friends.

You will live on in the hearts of many. No goodbye, only see you later. 

My heartfelt sympathies to your family in the passing of Mr Doug. I worked with him at Job Corps and he was such a blessing to the campus staff & students.  He was a man of great wisdom and compassion. I will keep you all in my prayers. Earth has no sorrow that HEAVEN can't heal.

Mr.Doug, will always be remembered as one of the most inspirational men from the Whitney M Young Jobcorps center. He was always very kind, willing to help students out with their problems intellectually and with reasoning rather than emotion, and share his wisdom, sympathy, and empathy with others. During some of my hardest times there at the campus he was willing to help share ideas to help out my situations at that time. When he was my transportation driver I'd enjoy our intellectual conversations and his encouraging support to help me achieve my dream job working for the Railroad.

 (To Mr. Doug): I wish I could be there now to bid you farewell, but I hope you can see me now! As I have finally become a CSX Transportation employee, and it's all thanks to the people like you who supported me to this point in my life. I will never forget you, thank you for being an inspiration to me and so many more! Rest in peace Mr. Doug.
