

Elmer F. “Bud” Knable, 84, died Sunday March 25, 2012. Bud was born March 21, 1928 in New Albany, Indiana. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School (Class of 1942), New Albany High School and was a graduate of Xavier University. Bud served as Lieutenant in the US Army 28th Division in Germany during the Korean War. He married Gilberte Mirville in Nice France. They returned to Floyds Knobs before moving to Cincinnati, where they lived until 1966 and then returned to Floyds Knobs and raised their family.
Bud was part owner of Bridge Liquors in New Albany and worked there for many years before he retired. In retirement, he was able to travel and they did move to Florida for a short while but then were pulled back to Floyds Knobs. He lived out his last years in his home with Gilberte. They were assisted by their loving caregivers, Dwayne, Janet, Brandy, Kristi and Jeffrey.
Bud was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was a long time member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Teresa (Frie); sister, Rita; and brothers, Joseph and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gilberte. They have four children, Karl (Lynda), Elmer (Catherine), Robert (Denise) and Therese Winner (Joe); 13 grandchildren, Holly, Catie, Klint, Isaac, Britni, Karoline, Thea, Jeffrey, Jessi, Quinn, Kobe, Audrey and Arie; and 4 great grandchildren, Porter, Savanna, Grace and Ava.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. ~ 8:00 p.m Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Monroe Township (Clark County) Indiana Relief Fund to aid tornado victims.
