Gene Stumler, 71 years of age peacefully passed away in his sleep at home on May 5, 2020. He was born on July 7, 1948 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Elmer and Rosalena (Koetter) Stumler. Gene was a graduate of Our Lady of Providence High School (class of 1966) and a member of Northside Christian Church in New Albany. After graduation, Gene continued to farm with his family. Then, he went on to co-own Grantline Garden Center for over 20 years. Upon retirement, Gene continued to share his love for gardening and enjoyed camping with others. He treasured visiting with family and friends, especially delivering poinsettias every Christmas. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, which included golf cart rides, reading a storybook, snuggling in his chair, and eating popcorn or ice cream together. Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenny Stumler, Norman Stumler, Andrew Stumler; sisters, Anita Stumler, Kathryn Stumler; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Stumler, and Linda Stumler. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Debbie Graf Stumler; children, Ryan Stumler (Jami), Travis Stumler (Gretchen), Melissa Gettelfinger (Matt); grandchildren, Colton, Lyla, Marcie, Max, Miles, Alexander; siblings, Vincent Stumler (Martha Lee), Sr. Geneva Stumler, Irvin Stumler (Pat); Bernice Conder (Joe), Leona Gibson (Zack), Geneva Boone (Bob), Melvin Stumler (Nancy), Steve Stumler (Cheri), Helen Ziegler (Jim), Anthony Stumler (Louise); sister-in-laws, Judy Jacobi, Sharon Stumler, Marcella Stumler; numerous nieces and nephews. Drive through visitation will be from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm Monday, May 11, 2020 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana 47150. Funeral service will be private but will be live streamed on Facebook by visiting Kraft Funeral Services on Facebook. A private burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Starlight, Indiana.
