James Henry Bates passed on March 19, 2026, at the age of 92. Jim was a resident of Sellersburg, Indiana, a veteran of the United States Army, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Essie Bates, and wife, Judie Rohleder Bates.
Jim is survived by his sons, James Henry Bates II (Melissa), Jesse Harrison Bates (Margaret); grandchildren, Jaime, Noah, Michael, Brittney, Sean (Sabrina), Jack, Tiffany (Cris); great grandchildren, Greyson, Preston, Isabella, Andres, Cruz; sisters, Nina Youngblood, Shirley Sheets; nieces, Sandra Baker, Essie Baker; nephew, Walter Bates; great nieces, Laura, Kathleen, Ali, Mickie, Syble, Samantha; great nephews, Cody (Alyssa), David (Jenny), Kevin (Salena).
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on March 23, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
