John was born on February 15, 1941 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Ludie (White) Gunn and John E. Cousin Sr.
At the early age of 11, John was baptized. Later in life, he rededicated himself to the Lord at Howard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member until his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called him home.
John was a 1960 graduate of New Albany High School, where he played and followed almost all sports. In fact, he was the first black man to play baseball at New Albany High School. That’s where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife Mamie L. Russell.
He also served the community as a police officer with the New Albany Police Department. John retired from the JCPS school system.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mamie L. Russell-Cousin; brothers, Charles Cousin, Otis Cousin, Ed Cousin, and James Barney.
Survivors include his children, Timothy E. (Linda) Russell, John Thomas Cousin, Jarman L. Davey, Tracy L. (George) Offutt, Diana (Kenneth) Hooten, and Michelle (Julian) Ramos; brothers, Raymond Cousin and Victor Cousin; sisters, Edwina Ellis, Alice Cousin, and Theresa Cousin; eight grandchildren, Anton and Ebony Cousin, Terrell Moragne, Julius Ramos, Jeremy and William Lee, and Micah and Zachariah Ramos; six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, family, and friends.
