John Robert "Bob" Schmitt

John Robert “Bob” Schmitt, 82 years of age died December 18, 2014. He was born February 24, 1932 in New Albany to the late Charles H. Schmitt Sr. and Helen (Marguet) Schmitt. Bob was a lifelong resident of New Albany, a 1950 graduate of New Albany High School and current treasurer of his class reunion committee. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and was the retired owner of Schmitt Furniture Company. Bob loved playing cards and all sports, especially golf, and he was truly a people person. Bob was an Army veteran, member of Bonnie Sloan American Legion Post #28 and a lifetime member of the New Albany Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Charles H. Schmitt Jr., Margaret Devarenne and brother-in-law Paul Lenfert. He is survived by Joyce A. (Schindler) Schmitt whom he married in 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce A. Schindler Schmitt; children, Karen J. Schmitt, Anne T. Alstott (Dennis), Laura C. Schmitt, John C. Schmitt, Amy G. Schmitt, Louis G. Schmitt; sisters, Betty Anne Lenfert, Mary Jeanne Huber (Gerald); sister-in-law, Patricia Craig Schmitt; grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Daring, Sydney, John; one great grandchild soon to be welcomed; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 11:00 am until 7:00 pm Sunday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church New Albany with burial to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana. A Celebration of Life will follow at the former New Albany Country Club.
