

JOSEPH LOUIS THEOBALD (RET. COL., U.S. ARMY), passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Louisville, KY after courageously fighting cancer for 8-1/2 months. The son of the late George and Leona (Kessing) Theobald, Joe was born September 24, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH. He was a 1962 graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati and earned a Bachelor Degree from Thomas Moore College. He served active military duty from 1966-1971, and served a tour in Vietnam. He served 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves achieving the rank of Colonel and was commanding officer of the 100th MTC. Joe earned his MBA from Xavier University and pursued a career with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville, KY. He was also a member of the Association of the Century, where he served as past Chairman. In 2003, Joe served in Iraq as a civilian with the U.S. State Department. Joe was a loving husband, caring father and was generous with his time to the community. He coached 5th and 6th grade football at St. Anthony School for over 23 years, winning 3 Toy Bowl Championships. He coached Clarksville Little League Baseball, was active with Providence High School, and was a director of the Community Soup Kitchen in Jeffersonville, IN. Joe was a Police Commissioner for the Clarksville Township and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church for over 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Susan (Harshman) Theobald; children, Matt Theobald (Jenn) of Franklin IN, Adam Theobald (Lisa) of Indianapolis IN and Amy Hinton (Chad) of Borden IN; siblings, Mary Ann Harnishfeger (Dan) of Foley AL,
George Theobald (Sharon) of Cincinnati OH and Tom Theobald (Joanne) of Cincinnati OH; grandchildren, Joseph, Elijah and Olivia Theobald; and Regan, Jillian, Lauren & Clare Hinton; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am ~ 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, IN. There will be a Rosary Service at 4:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Clarksville, IN with burial and military honors to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
