Lewis U. Pry Jr. passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. He was 89 years young, and a cherished son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. While we mourn his loss, our hearts are etched with extraordinary memories of our time with him.
Lewie was born on December 23, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leoda R. (Luther) Pry and L. Upton Pry, Sr., sister, Virginia Lindley, and his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn L. (Grannan) Pry. He graduated from New Albany High School, Indiana University in Bloomington, and The Engineer School in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and was immediately shipped overseas to Germany and assigned to the 11th Engineer Group. After his release from active duty, he returned to New Albany to work for his father and eventually operated the family construction business, Upton Pry, Inc. He served on the Board of Directors and as an officer of several local businesses, and for 26 years he was on the Board of Directors of the old Union National Bank, now PNC Bank. He was on the building Commission for the city of New Albany for 25 years and was one of the original advisers for the Building Trades division of Prosser School.
He belonged to the old New Albany Country Club, and enjoyed playing golf, ever chasing the elusive hole in one, and eating there on Friday nights with Carolyn and friends.
In 1957, he became a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church during which time he served two terms and one extra year on the Vestry. During that time he served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer, and Secretary.
He is survived by three children, Steve Pry (Laurie), Kathy Coryell (Jim), and Cara Sariscsany (Dale); eight grandchildren, Conner Sariscsany (Lindsey), Jacob Pry, Jared Pry (Brianna), Alyssa Sariscsany, Becca Coryell, Jessica Coryell, Tyler Sariscsany, Spencer Pry; sister, JoAnne Howard (Ron), and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
