Margaret (Stromire) Schroeder, 89, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, March 17, 2025. She was born on May 24, 1935, to the late William Dewey Stromire and Rachel Alice (Polen) Stromire. Margaret was married to her husband of 71 years, Gerold Schroeder. She graduated from New Albany High School in 1953. Margaret later retired from Pillsbury.
Margaret, affectionately known as "Nanny" to all, her heart belonged entirely to her family. She found her greatest joy in the love of those around her. She loved needlework, quilting, crafting, and word puzzles. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel across the entire continental United States, Canada, and Mexico. Her love for animals, especially bunnies, was undeniable, and she found joy in their presence. She had a knack for discovering treasures in her beloved "junkie stores" and yard sales. Above all, she lived a full life of love, adventure, and simple joys, leaving cherished memories that will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Along with her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by brothers Dewey, James, and William; sisters Alma Jean, Joan, Joyce, Isabel, and Barbara.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gerold Schroeder; daughter, Judy Schroeder Stults; sons David Schroeder (Nancy) and John Schroeder (Diane); grandchildren, Amy Romig, Christy Crawley (Derek), Michael Schroeder, Amber Bennett (Dakota), Brianna Schroeder, and Abigail Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Christian Johnson (Zayne), Caitlyn Mooser, T.J. Bennett, and Ellie Bennet; and many other step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Kosair Children's Charity Foundation.
