Martha Jane Burden, 96 years of age passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members. Jane was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany.
She loved talking and meeting people. She enjoyed many activities, including going to square dances, round dances, line dances, and clogging with her daughter, Deborah. She was an honorary member of Sunnyside Solos Square Dance group. She also enjoyed going to classic guitar concerts with her son, Donald. She had been a volunteer usher at the Kentucky Center for 25 years. She was also a volunteer usher at the Ogle Center in New Albany for 10 years, and at the Palace Theather and Actor’s Theater in Louisville, Kentucky.
Jane was a retired Cub Scout den mother, retired Avon lady and former babysitter. She enjoyed participating in lip sync and acting shows at the Holy Family Theater group in New Albany. In recent time, she was an avid enthusiast of the television programs, “Little Couple” and game shows, “Let’s Make a Deal”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”. She also liked to draw, was an amateur artist, and collected rooster decorations.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Burden and son, Don Burden. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Burden.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday, September 16, 2019 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
