Mary Elizabeth (Edwards) Garvin Mimms

Mary Elizabeth (Edwards) Garvin Mimms, departed this life on January 11, 2020 at Autumn Woods Health Campus at the age of 87. She was born May 20, 1932 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Thomas and Rosie Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; six sisters; and her devoted and loving husbands, Marvin Garvin and Rev. Stephen A. Mimms. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Carolyn Sanders, Charlotte Rainey, Charles, Roger, Lawrence, James, Lindsey, and Joe Brown, Tyrone and Duane Campbell, and Harold Krank; step-granddaughters, Dina Flemister and Erica Waller; and numerous extended family members and friends. She professed a hope in Jesus Christ in 1944 at Joshua Tabernacle Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Mary worked at the old General Hospital in Louisville and Council for Older Americans Center and Transportation (LifeSpan) where she drove the van until she became ill. Mary worked as a volunteer at Green Valley Care Center, RSVP Food Pantry, and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mary loved music and singing. Mary was thankful to the staff at Autumn Woods Health Campus for their kindness and support. Mary never would say goodbye, she always would say “so long”. This time, she said to tell everyone goodbye, thanks, and that she loved you all. Visitation will be from 5 pm ~ 8 pm Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany. Her Funeral Service will be at 11 am Tuesday in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel with burial to follow in New Albany National Cemetery.
