

Melvin Paul Stumler, a cherished and resilient individual, passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 18, 1947, in Starlight, Indiana, to the late Elmer Stumler and Rosalena (Koetter) Stumler. Melvin was a hard-working and generous man who left a lasting impact on those around him.
Melvin was born and raised in Starlight, Indiana, on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work. He attended Our Lady of Providence High School and graduated with the class of 1965.
Melvin married the love of his life, Nancy Wilson, on February 5, 1966, in Starlight, Indiana, at Saint John's Catholic Church. This union was the start of creating a family legacy with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In 1973, at the age of 27, Melvin was one of the founders of Insulated Roofing Contractors. After his retirement, he spent a great deal of time in Florida, where he enjoyed the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
A man of varied interests, Melvin enjoyed boating and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. His personal life was as rich as his professional endeavors.
Melvin was deeply involved in his community. He was a founding member of Hill City Church in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and a supporter of Choices Life Resource Center in New Albany, Indiana. His contributions to these organizations reflected his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Vincent, Kenny, Norman, Andrew, and Gene; his sisters, Kathryn and Anita; his brother-in-laws, Joe Wilson and Clark Jeffries; and his sister-in-laws, Mary Lou Stumler, Martha Lee Stumler, and Linda Stumler.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy (Wilson) Stumler; his children, Rick and Libby Stumler, Tracy and Mike Baird, and Sean and Jenny Stumler; his wonderful grandchildren, Brandon (Natalie) Stumler, Amber (Josh) McKain, Tyler (Kacie) Stumler, Ericka Stumler, Justin Baird, Christian (Kaylen) Roberts, Cortney (Justin) Osborne, and Alli (Riley) Linnehan; great grandchildren, Emma, Asher, Brooklyn, Braxton, Oliver, Silas, Ada, Griffin, Adeline, Sterling, Everett, and Danielle; his brothers, Irvin (Pat), Steve (Cheri), and Anthony (Louise); his sisters, Sr. Geneva, Bernice (Joe), Leona (Zach), Geneva (Bob), and Helen (Jim); in-laws, Sher Stumler, Judy (John) Jacobi, Debbie Stumler, Marcella Stumler, Mike (Liz) Wilson, Mary Jeffries, Wayne (Doris) Hampton, and many extended family and friends.
Melvin will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his faith, his family, his community, and his work. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and loyalty will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A celebration of life will be held at Hill City Church, 6639 St Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for expressions of sympathy to be made to the Choices Life Resource Center in New Albany, Indiana.
