Robert J. "Bob" Johnson

Robert J. “Bob” Johnson, 84 years of age, died Friday, March 9, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born June 2, 1933 in New Albany to the late Julius and Bertha (Scott) Johnson and was the widower of his wife of 55 years, Doris G. “Dotty” (Maddux) Johnson, who died in 2004. Bob was a member and past Major with the New Albany Fire Department for 22 years until retiring in 1982. He was a graduate of the Police Academy, the founder of the N.A.F.D. Arson Bureau, and first Arson Investigator with that bureau. His memberships included the Fraternal Order of Police, International Association of Firefighters, and the Retired Firefighters Association. He loved fishing, hunting, and the outdoors, but most of all he loved his family. Bob will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Robert Wayne Johnson; daughter, Virginia A. “Ginny” Johnson; and siblings, Ruth Eicholz and Wayne Johnson. Survivors include three daughters: Elizabeth “Janey” Lee (Roy), Patricia “Patsy” Hoskins (Dennis), and Lynda Grunzinger (Paul); four grandchildren, Lisa Lee Farmer (Fred), Lori Hope (Marty), Jazmine Reed (Jeremie), and Sam Grunzinger (Christi); five great grandchildren, Jeremie, Lyla, Dawson, Jackson, and Hayden; sister, Linda Sue Wenning; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a close family friend, Pat Oliver. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 14th, and after 9:00 am on Thursday, March 15th, at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be at 12 noon Thursday, March 15th, in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel. Burial with N.A.F.D. Honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany.
