

Sally was born on January 13, 1940, in Moundsville, West Virginia, to the late Daniel E. Dunmire Jr. and Kathleen Lenore (Burgun) Dunmire. Sally grew up in Pennsylvania and went on to graduate from Penn State University with a teaching degree, where she met her husband, Tom. Sally moved to Lansing, MI, with Tom and started teaching. Sally and Tom started a family in Princeton, WV, where they had Laura Louise and Polly Blake. From WV, they moved to Louisville, KY, where they eventually settled into life raising their daughters in New Albany, IN. Sally taught Family and Consumer Sciences at Corydon Central High School for 35 years, where she developed many courses on her own and earned her master's in education at Indiana University Southeast. Sally dedicated her life to education and inspired countless students throughout her career. Her commitment to teaching was a testament to her passion for learning and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Burgun Dunmire and Daniel Edward Dunmire III, and her sister Susan Dunmire Hadley (Tom).
Sally is survived by her husband, Thomas "Tom" Buckey, with whom she shared a lifelong marriage of 63 years. Sally is also survived by her daughters, Laura Louise Buckey Ramos (Sergio), and Polly Blake Boehnlein (Christopher); her grandchildren, Esperanza Nicole Ramos Parrish, Ashlee Jean Ramos, Blake Christopher Boehnlein, and Maxwell Thomas Boehnlein; and her great-grandson, Gunnar Ray Parrish. Sally is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN, on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The burial will immediately follow the funeral service.
Sally will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her compassion, her ability to find joy in the smallest moments, her love for learning, and her nurturing of the potential in others.
