

THOMAS J. GROVE, 63 years of age, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Elkhart, Indiana. Tom was born November 15, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky to John M. and Trudy (Wolford) Grove. Tom earned a BA degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana. He retired as a teacher and Head of the art department at Elkhart Central High School at the end of 2015 after 40 years of dedicated service helping his students pursue their interest in art and photography.
Tom was a skilled fine artist and photographer. He and his work earned many prestigious awards, including: a two-time Lilly Creative Teacher Fellow, a Toyota International Teacher Program participant, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Research participant. Tom held several shows of his art and photography throughout the State of Indiana. Tom will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and many students and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Grove.
Survivors include his mother, Trudy L. (Wolford) Grove; siblings, John Grove (Cheryl), Jim Grove (Janie), Susan Grove-Jennings (Mark), Tim Grove (Mindy), and Steve Grove (Lea); and nieces and nephews, Marcy, Hadley, Alli, John Michael, Rachel, Alex, Matthew, Justin, Garrett, Zachary, and Anna. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Carl and Mary Kay Wolford.
Visitation for Tom will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, February 10, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany, Indiana. Private burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana. A scholarship fund in the name of Thomas J. Grove is being considered.
