

Vernon “Gene” Nicholson, 75 years of age died Saturday July 26, 2014 at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was born July 25, 1939 in Upland, Indiana to the late Ernest and Ethel (Moore) Nicholson. Gene was a retired engineer from Norfolk Southern Railroad, was a member of First Assembly of God Church in New Albany and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He had a great love for his family, he enjoyed NASCAR, IU Basketball, his 67 Ford Mustang, and his social time with the railroad retirees. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ritchie Nicholson, and sister, Margie Goodlett. The family would like to thank Dr. Karem and Dr. Chowhan for the excellent care they provided.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Edna Scharrer Nicholson; daughters, Tonya Miller, Rhonda McKennon (Tony); son, Gary “Nic” Nicholson (Dana); brothers, Frank Nicholson (Barbara Sue), John Nicholson (Charlotte); sisters, Ellen Keeton, Doris Heeke; grandchildren, Brooke Schlise (Jason), Josh McKennon (Amy), Taylor McKennon, Vinnie Nicholson, Dylan Nicholson, Kennedy Nicholson; great grandchildren, Kayla Schlise and Carleigh Schlise.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana and 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Wednesday at First Assembly of God. His Funeral Service will be 12:00 pm Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church with private burial at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
