

William Andrew Hacker, 83 of New Albany, Indiana, walked with the angels through heaven’s gate on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Born at home July 12, 1927, to Susan Lincoln Wilson and Joseph Leroy Hacker, Bill graduated from New Albany High School in 1945, where he was co-captain of the football team. He proudly served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army.
In 1950, Bill married the love of his life, Clayta Marie Dooley. They were soon blessed with three daughters. Bill was a lifelong member of DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church and a fifty year member of DePauw Lodge No 338, F. & A.M... He retired in 1992, after 52 years with the L. Thorn Company.
Bill persevered through many years of adversity and earned the love and admiration of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Susan Hacker, and two sisters, Elizabeth J. Kelly, and Ruth E. Denny.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Clayta Marie Hacker, daughters Rebecca S. Durick, Patricia A. Cunningham (Stephen), and Cara L. Luckett (Jerry Duvall). Grandchildren Mickey Durick (Melissa), Heather Proffitt (Jerry), Kristen McKinley (Jeff), Lacie Luckett (Aaron Johnson), and William Hudson Luckett. Great grandchildren Greyson and Hayden Durick, Alexis McKinley, and Ethan and Brooke Proffitt. Bill also leaves behind his beloved sister Helen W. Thorn, and his sister and brother-in-law Wava and Paul Schumacher as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The family extends it deepest gratitude to the staff of Floyd County Home Health, especially Jackie Rich and Leisha Baynard for their loving and compassionate care. Elizabeth McClellan and Barbara Huffines of Veterens’ Affairs, and Dr. Larry Fineman for his continued care of our husband and father.
The family will receive visitors at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN on Thursday, September 9th from 3-7pm. A celebration of Bill’s life will take place on Friday, September 10th at noon in the chapel at Kraft’s. Expressions of sympathy may be made to DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
