Born in Fall River, the son of the late Michael and Katarina (Saravo) Strollo, he grew up in Fall River and had resided in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Strollo served in the United States Navy as an apprentice seaman during World War II.
He had worked as a machinist for Morse Cutting Tools for 38 years.
Albino played AAA minor league professional baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies and Fall River Indians. Bino’s athletic abilities were on par with nationally recognized baseball stars. He played with Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe, hitting a triple off of Newcombe. He played basketball and football for B.M.C. Durfee High School and semi-pro football for the Fall River Patriots. Bino was a talented gardener, an avid Red Sox and sports fan and loved spending time with his family whom he adored. He was sharp witted and socially engaging till his last day.
His family includes two daughters, Paula Lynn and husband David of Bolton, CT and Rena Lemieux and husband Daniel of New Bedford; a sister, Delores Rocha of RI; four grandchildren, Megan Stock and husband Michael, Daniel Lynn and fiancé Stephanie Bernier, Ryan and Sarah Lemieux; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anna Sousa, Ralph, Frank and Anthony Strollo, Olga Dotson, Flora Rapoza and Virginia Machado.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
