

Alex was the beloved son of Robert M. Melo of Acushnet, MA and Maria Fatima (Mambuco) Melo of New Bedford. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford and was attending CCD classes in preparation for his confirmation.
He was a seventh grade student at Normandin Middle School where he strived for and achieved academic excellence. Alex was an intelligent, outgoing and creative young man who often spoke of his future studies and dreams of success. He was extremely proud of his recent nomination by one of his teachers to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, DC.
Alex enjoyed watching WWE and Boston Bruins games with his dad. One of his fondest memories was attending the 2011 Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Celebration Parade. He recently played football for the New Bedford Bears as an offensive lineman. Most of all, Alex enjoyed spending time with his family especially his best friend and sister, Alysson. Alex’s kind-hearted and gentle soul will be deeply missed by all who loved him and were privileged to call him a friend.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Alysson M. Melo; paternal grandparents, Artur and Natalia Melo of Acushnet, MA; maternal grandparents, Daniel Cas Mambuco and Ernestina Nogueira de Sotto, both of Angola; Godparents, Carlos and Manuela Melo; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also the paternal great-grandson of the late Jose M. and Edvis Melo and maternal great-grandson of the late Jeremias and Salome Medeiros.
Alex’s funeral will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 9:00 am from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford followed by burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
