Born in Cambridge, a son of the late Alfred J. and Evelyn (Pacheco) Gilmore and the brother of the late Michael Gilmore. He was a longtime New Bedford resident. Fred attended Bristol Community College and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed as a correction officer for 23 years at the Bridgewater State Correctional Institute, retiring in 1993.; He enjoyed trips to Cape Cod with Betty, was an avid golfer and a Boston Red Sox Fan. He loved lighthouses and sailboats. He enjoyed watching Zombie movies and being at home. But more than anything else, Fred loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Fred is also survived by his son Kevin J. Gilmore and wife Nicole of Weymouth; his three grandchildren, Zachary, Colin and Parker.
