

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, Mrs. Depina was the daughter of the late Francisco and Ludovina (Silva) Tavares. After living in Cape Verde, she moved to Senegal, West Africa for 15 years and then immigrated to the United States in 1978. She worked as a presser operator at Manly Manufacturing.
Celestina was devoted to her family; she loved nothing more than spending time with them, sewing and doing housework.
Survivors include her daughter, Marguerite “Maggie” D. Baptista and her husband Marcel of New Bedford, three grandchildren, Celeste George of Attleboro, Christopher Baptista of Marlboro and Fatima Baptista of Avon, 1 great grandchild Isabella George of Attleboro and one sister Julia Tavares of North Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Julio and Manuel Tavares and the mother of the late Daniel Tavares.
Her funeral will be held at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford on Tuesday, May 10 at 9am followed by a service in the funeral home at 10am. Visitation on Monday from 5-9pm.
