Charles Joseph Barton, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Thursday April 11, 2019. He was born on September 14, 1944. He was the husband of Anita (Lebeau) Barton, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Charles J. Barton, Sr. and the late Alice (Haggerty) Barton.
Mr. Barton was a 1966 graduate of Merrimack College, and served in the United States Army Reserves from 1966 through 1972. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant for over 30 years. He loved to rescue greyhounds and collect coins and stamps. He was also an avid NASCAR and Boston sports fan. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, and was an active participant in St. Joseph/St. Therese Church Parish, where he volunteered at bingo for many years. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are a son, Charles J. Barton, III (Heather) of Thirsk, England; three daughters: Elizabeth Rayner (Matt) of Mattapoisett, Anne Marie St. Germaine of New Bedford, Margaret Martel (Dan) of Stansbury Park, Utah; and eight grandchildren: Rosemary Barton, Blake Barton, Brian Rayner, Andrew Rayner, Emma R. Barton, Abigail St. Germaine, Isabella St. Germaine, and Victoria St. Germaine.
His memorial Mass will be held Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph St./Therese Church on Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – MA and RI Chapter. www.cff.org
