

Charles “Charlie” H. Desjardins, 100, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at home. He was the husband of the late Catherine “Kay” R. Desjardins with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Armand and Berthe (Savoie) Desjardins.
He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and Southeastern Massachusetts Technical Institute.
Mr. Desjardins proudly served in the United States Army during World War II then enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Charles had worked as a lithographer for American Press in New Bedford for many years until his retirement.
Charlie was a talented jack of all trades who built his own home. He was very artistic and holds a patent of his own. He always kept up with current events and maintained a sharp mind by always trying to learn something new. Charlie enjoyed watching the New England Patriots. Most of all, he adored his wife Kay and loved spending time with his family who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his children, Mark Desjardins and wife Sharon, Michele Fortin, Douglas Desjardins and wife Jacqueline, Rachel Gordon and husband Paul, Monique Mello and husband Bruce and Christopher Desjardins and wife Melissa; eleven grandchildren, Caitlyn Desjardins and wife Andrea De Jesus, Danielle Leber and husband Adam, Renee Jones and husband Tyler, Joclyn Mcgee and husband Mark, Andrea Newman and husband Daniel, Sarah Renaud and husband Daniel, Vanessa McCoy and husband Henry, Andrew Lackie, Sheridan Mello and husband Daniel, Alexandria Mello and Curran Desjardins and fiancée Jenna; six great-grandchildren, Isabella Jones, Bryce Jones, Benjamin Newman, Leo Newman, Finn McCoy and Quinn Andrews; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Stephen Desjardins and brother of the late Armand, Robert and Roger Desjardins.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
