

David was born in New Bedford to the late Manuel Lawrence Jr. and the late Louise P. (Ponte) Lawrence and lived there until 1973, when he moved with his family to Assonet.
He graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. He was a Private in the United States Army, having served as a paratrooper in Korea from July 30, 1952 to July 16, 1955. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He worked as a Correctional Officer for the MCI in Walpole and Bridgewater and retired in 1983.
Survivors include two daughters: Jane Mirick and her husband, Stephen of Bradford, MA and Cathy Lawrence of Hamilton, NJ; a sister Irene Mello and her husband, Joseph of Fort Plain, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Margaret Robert.
In accordance with David's wishes, there will be no formal service. Following cremation, his family will mourn privately.
