Debra was a graduate of New Bedford High School and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Bridgewater State College. She dedicated her career to serving the community as a social worker for various agencies.
Debra was married to Dennis Kenney for 54 years and was the beloved mother of her late daughter, Heather Kenney. She is survived by her son, Derek Kenney, and his wife, Chandra, of Fairhaven, and her daughter, Jennifer Cusson, and her husband, Timothy, of Dartmouth. She also leaves behind her brother, Raymond Hamby, of California, her cherished grandchildren, Colby Cusson and his wife, Mikayla, Sabrena Cusson, Kathryn Kenney, Brady Cusson, and Keira Kenney, several cousins including Sharyn Souza, her niece, Suzy and several other nieces and nephews. Debra's love for animals was evident in her affection for her cat, Abigail and her dog, Noel.
Known for her sociable nature, Debra loved meeting new people and cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her love for people, animals, and sunflowers was a testament to her vibrant personality.
Visiting hours will be held at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 10:00 am from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd, Dartmouth. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 559 Mt Pleasant St, New Bedford.
