Dennis C Bourgeios

This obituary shares the life of Dennis C. Bourgeois, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Dennis C. Bourgeois of New Bedford, Massachusetts, entered his eternal rest on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the age of 78.

After months of failing health, Dennis died peacefully with his son, Jeffrey, and daughter-in-law, Tammy, by his side.

Dennis was born on January 3, 1942, in Acushnet, MA, to Irene N. Ruthkowsi-Bourgeois and Cleophas Bourgeois. Dennis met and married the love of his life, Carlotta M. Rebello in 1962. They lived together inseparably for forty-six years until Dennis became a widower. He was a devoted husband and often mentioned the love and happiness Carlotta and he shared. Dennis was the proud father of Jeffrey M. Bourgeois of Florida, and his daughter, Shauneen Bourgeois of Rhode Island. However, his greatest pride was his granddaughter, Solei Bourgeois.

Dennis loved his family, dancing, travel, and was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. He and Carlotta were renowned for their ballroom dancing skills and they won many dance competitions. In fact, at a recent family affair, Dennis stood up and with the help of his cane, and danced to his great nephew’s music.

Being innately inquisitive, Dennis and Carlotta traveled frequently nationally and internally. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, the Celtics, and “cheered-on” the Patriots. Additionally, Dennis was well known for his sense of humor and charming personality. As a sales manager, Dennis was awarded the honor of “Salesman of the Year.” Additionally, Dennis was an avid reader and enjoyed mystery novels. He also adopted the hobby of entering contests and winning many prizes.

Dennis was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a caring brother, and loving father, grandfather, and uncle. Dennis was a strong, proud and good man. He is loved and will be missed by many!

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Carlotta M. Bourgeois; and his sister, Arlerne Texeira.

Dennis is survived by his children, Jeffrey M. Bourgeois, his daughter-in-law, Tammy P. Bourgeois and granddaughter, Solei Carlotta Bourgeois of Florida; his daughter, Shauneen A. Bourgeois of Rhode Island; his brother Steven P. Bourgeois and his wife Simone of Fairhaven, MA; and his sister, Barbara Loranger of Mattapoisett, MA. Mourning Dennis’ passings include his nieces, Nicole Bourgeois-Ferreira and Melissa DeMello; and his nephews Craig DeMello and Kyle DeMello. Dennis is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 10am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Arrangements are in the care of the Rock Funeral Home, New Bedford.
