Dianne May Woodis, aged 69, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, after a long and courageous battle. Dianne was a beloved mother, partner, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, resilience, and creativity.
Dianne was the daughter of the late Louis and Eunice Woodis and grew up in a close-knit family in New Bedford. She was the first in her family to graduate from college, a testament to her determination and commitment. Dianne worked as a secretary at Office Supply Company in New Bedford during the 1980s. She later worked at several companies, including Child & Family Services, Better Community Living, and Peirce the Florist.
Dianne had an incredibly creative mind. She most recently enjoyed crochet, and made lots of baby clothing and doll clothing. In previous years she dabbled in drawing, making plush Christmas trees, and Scherenschnitte, a German art form.
She was the loving and devoted partner of Darrell Porter, with whom she shared 7 cherished years. Dianne was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, Jaime Haley, and son-in-law, Paul Haley. She also held a very special place in her heart for her godsons, Seth Perry of New Bedford and Douglas English of Wanchese, NC.
Dianne was predeceased by her partner, Robert Bettencourt. Her youngest sister, Gail Perry, passed in 2013 and is survived by her husband, Stephen Perry. Dianne is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Barclay, and brother-in-law, Rev. George Barclay. She shared a close bond with her siblings, and their memories together brought her great joy.
Dianne’s legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4-6 pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 6:00 pm at ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation in Dianne’s memory.
Rest in peace, Dianne. Your light will continue to shine in the lives of those you loved.
