Edward Dawson Jr.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Edward and Monica (Galuska) Dawson, he was a lifelong resident of the city.

He attended Southeastern Mass Institute of Technology for Textile Engineering then served in the United States Marines during the Korean War.

Mr. Dawson had worked as a truck driver for Sunbeam Bakery for many years until his retirement.

Survivors include his children, Michelle Petersen and husband Kevin of Wisconsin, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Michael Dawson of New Bedford, Colonel Stephen Dawson and wife Nancy of Georgia and Danielle Perry and husband Shawn of Dartmouth; three sisters, June and Betty White and Gail Klima; a brother, Carl Dawson; ten grandchildren, Amanda Sladewski, Ashley Nichols, Sampson, Alexis “Bunny”, Coral and Hannah Perry, Ian and Naia Dawson, Nicole and Kaylee Petersen; three great-grandchildren, Sophie and Luke Sladewski and Hadley Nichols; a sister-in-law, Virginia Dawson and brother-in-law, Armand Dupont; many nieces and nephews; and the companion of Lorraine Pacheco. He was father of a late infant daughter and brother of the late Lowell and Joyce Dawson and Eleanor Dupont.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to Community Nurse Home Care, 62 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719. Private funeral services are in the care of Rock Funeral Home.
