

Emile J. Lapointe, age 93 of New Bedford, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 in Care One of New Bedford. He was very spiritual and a devoted husband of Bernadette C. (Binette) Lapointe with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Emery and Ludivine (Letourneau) Lapointe of Magog, Quebec, Canada. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 109th Infantry Regiment. During 1950-1954 he was deployed to Gablingen Kaserne, Augsburg, Germany. After serving in the military, Emile worked for the Aerovox Cooperation as a welder for over 50 years.
When he wasn’t working, Emile spent his free time playing tennis, baseball, horseshoes, pool, cards and boardgames with his family and neighborhood kids. Everyone loved being around Emile. It was important to him to educate the next generation on important lessons like shaking hands with an opposing team after a game, gracefully accepting defeat, having a positive attitude, being respectful and willing to learn.
In addition to his wife Bernadette, he is survived by his daughters, Jo-Ann Burnett and her husband James of New Bedford and Michelle T. Lapointe of New Bedford; his granddaughter, Melissa Jackson and her husband Matthew; great-grandchildren, Brandon Argiro, McKenzy Jackson and Logan Jackson; his siblings, Leona Chenette, Jeanne Gladu, Rolande Morrell, Georgette Caron and Jeannette Coons and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Napoleon, Albert, Alfred and Romeo Lapointe and Cecil Breakel, Helen Loureiro, Bella Monty, Lorraine DeCampos, Eva Desrosier and Alma Geil.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 12:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation prior from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Due to the current restriction of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the burial service is private.
