Fatima Moniz Castelo

She was born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores in 1957. She immigrated to the United States in late 1977, settling in New Bedford, MA.

Fatima was a well-known radio personality, working at WJFD-FM until 1991, eventually becoming station manager. Upon leaving WJFD, she worked as an interpreter and senior language specialist at Language Line Solutions. Simultaneously, Fatima appeared on Radio, ‘Voz Do Emigrante’ for over 30 years.

Fatima enjoyed traveling, gardening, and especially entertaining legions of family and friends and caring for her dog Skylar who passed away earlier this year. She was a source of inspiration for many and was ready to help anyone who was in need.

Fatima was pre-deceased by her parents, Maria Jose Moniz and Joao I. Moniz and father-in-law, Cristiano Castelo. She is survived by her husband of nearly 33 years, Cris Castelo and mother-in-law Maria M. Castelo. Fatima was mom to Jennifer Musto and her husband Mark Musto and vovó to Avery Musto, Conner Musto, and DD. Godmother, auntie, cousin and niece too many. She will be greatly missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 230 Bonney Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fatima’s name, may be made to a charity of your choice.
