Florence G. Greenwood

Florence was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1943. She began her working life at Merchants National Bank in the bookkeeping department, where she worked with checking accounts. She later spent much of her career in the soda business, where she enjoyed working with numbers, balancing accounts, and ordering the supplies needed for the production of canned and bottled soda. After the soda plant closed, she continued her career working in various offices throughout the New Bedford area.

A devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church in New Bedford, Florence faithfully served as the church’s Treasurer for many years. Her church and church family were deeply important to her, and she remained actively involved throughout her life.

Florence was a simple woman who took pride in her work and in helping others along the way. She enjoyed reading and bookkeeping and was known for her dedication, faithfulness, and quiet service to those around her. To those who knew her, she was truly a good and faithful servant.

She is survived by her loving children, Wayne A. Greenwood of Acushnet, and Gail M. Greenwood of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Helen Cornforth.

Her visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Immanuel Baptist Church, 195 Whitman St., New Bedford, MA 02745.
