Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Manuel and Ellen (Pacheco) Barros he was a longtime area resident. Mr. Barros was a Naval Veteran after 28 years of service.
He is survived by a son, Valentino Ferreira of New Bedford and two grandsons, Garrett Michael Ferreira and Nathan Paul Ferreira; sisters, Patricia M. Gonsalves and Carol A. Bruneau. He was the brother of the late Roland R. Barros.
In his spare time, George enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cribbage, poker, and pitch.
His funeral will be Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial with Naval Honors will follow in Rural Cemetery, 149 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-7 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com.
