

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Giuseppe and Genoveffa (Cipriani) Iacoponi, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He spent summers in Wellfleet.
A Veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II as a baker and won first prize in a GI baking contest in Africa. He worked as a Police Officer for the City of New Bedford for over 25 years before retiring. He served as Secretary of the New Bedford Police Association from 1967-1976. He worked for the Giusti Baking Company before joining the Navy.
Gino was a fun-loving person who loved and appreciated life. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, swimming and kayaking.
He is survived by one son: Michael Iacoponi of Cocoa, FL, four daughters: Gina M. Clark of Oakfield, ME, Rory Ann Martin and her husband Skip, Christine E. Dobrinska and her husband Michael all of Sandwich, MA, Lisa A. Dupee and her husband Dave of N. Adams, MA, four grandchildren: Chandler Guilbeault, Nash and Wyatt Dupee and Lily Noble, two great-grandchildren: Jade and Jacqueline Rabor, and many nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Mary Louise Iacoponi, father-in-law of the late George Clark, grandfather of the late Julie Rabor, and brother of the late Sergi, Susie, Inez, Mary, Adrianne, and Delmo.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 9AM from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494, Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-7PM. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
