Grace Vyra Bernier

Grace Vyra Bernier, a devoted, kind-hearted, and thoughtful soul, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 6, 1935, Grace was a cherished resident of East Freetown, Massachusetts.

Grace, the daughter of the late Ansel and Isabell (Tinkham) Cornell, was brought up with strong faith and family values which she carried with her throughout her life and tried to instill in her children and everyone around her.

Grace was the beloved wife of the late Donald J. Bernier. She was a loving mother to Donald Bernier Jr. and his wife Robin of Lakeville, Michelle Bernier and Kelly Medeiros both of Freetown. She was predeceased by her son, Richard P. Bernier. Grace's family extends to her honored grandchildren, Shane, Wade, Rosey, Scott, Vanessa, Benjamin, Nikolas, Dylan, and Garrett, as well as many great-grandchildren and beautiful great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Chace, Barbara DeMoranville, Margaret Baker, Susan Pittsley, and Nancy Westgate, along with countless nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Leonard, and Richard Cornell.

Grace will always be remembered for having a deep love of flowers, butterflies, and hummingbirds that she watched from the comfort of her backyard. In younger days Grace found joy in cooking breakfast for her grandchildren and baking. Eventually she left her job as a stitcher and opened a cake baking and decorating business out of her own kitchen. Grace treasured her time with her family, her friends and her amazing sisters.

Grace Vyra Bernier will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Her memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:00PM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Celebration of Life from 6:00 to 9:00PM, at Lakeville Eagle, 217 County Street, Lakeville, MA 02347. Relative's and friends are invited.
