Herbert W. Hunt

Herbert “Herbie” W. Hunt, 87, of Acushnet, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Southeastern Mass Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Bedford. He was the husband of Cecilia (DeBalsi) Hunt with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late John and Annie V. (Noonan) Hunt, he had resided in Acushnet for the past several years.

Mr. Hunt was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, American Theatre Medal and the China Service Medal.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Mass Highway Department for over 30 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Margaret Ann Mandeville and her husband Paul J. and Nancy Lee David and her husband Bruce J. of Acushnet; two grandchildren, Robert M. David and his wife Agnieszka and Patrick Lawrence, Jr. and his fiancé Shellie Torrez all of New Bedford; two sisters, his twin, Hazel Arruda of Fall River and Sr. Barbara Hunt both of Fall River; a brother, Ralph Hunt and his wife Aurora of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dorothy, John and Anna Hunt, Ruth Gallant and Esther Stephan.

His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a Funeral Mass at 10am in Our Lady of Purgatory Church, 11 Franklin St., New Bedford.
