Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late John and Mary Cordeiro, she was a life-long resident of the area. Mrs. Matias was a communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church and had a great appreciation for nature.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie Beckwith and her husband Paul of Auburn and Lucy Matias of Westport; a son, George Matias of Boston; a twin sister, Alvia Augusto of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel, James, John and Daniel Cordeiro.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, Novemeber 20, 2012 at 9:30 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours, Tuesday 8:30-930 AM prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509.
