Jean Cornell

Jean (DeMello) Cornell, 95, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024 in her daughter’s home in New Hampshire surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Leonard Cornell.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Lebeau) DeMello. She lived most her life in New Bedford and previously in Dartmouth and Freetown. She was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford.

Jean worked as an assembler at Oberon and previously worked at Aerovox and John I. Paulding.

She is survived by her children, Brenda Rogers of New Bedford, Linda Viator of Acushnet, and Nancy Roach of Nashua, NH. She was the sister of the late Mary Gracia, Eva Dupont, Emily Santos, Evelyn Carr, Doris Pimental, and Joseph DeMello. She is also survived by multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be Friday, September 20, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, 1100 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
