

Joan (Bernier) Carrier, 92, of New Bedford passed away on hospice care Monday, January 29, 2024 in St. Luke’s Hospital just two days short of her 93rd birthday. She was the devoted wife of the late Paul Carrier.
Born in Central Falls, RI, a daughter of the late Theodore J. and Emma (Shank) Bernier she lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was a communicant of the former St. Joseph-St. Therese and currently St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
Mrs. Carrier worked as a “Domestic Engineer” and she was a marvelous piano teacher. She was a member of the Secular Third Order of St. Francis since 1956. Joan was very active at her church where she was loved and admired by many. Joan was a great cook and gifted seamstress. She will always be a loved and remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Denise M. Carrier of New Bedford, Marian Payant and her husband Romain of New Bedford, and Joseph F. Carrier and his wife Sharon of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Michelle Payant, Michael Payant and his wife Jennifer, Cristina Carrier, and Jennifer Green and her husband Ethan; great grandchildren, Julianne, Emma, Collin, Genevieve, Grant, and Gabriel; sisters-in-law, Simonne Bernier, Irene Bernier, and Doris Bernier; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marius Bernier, Edward Bernier, Roger Bernier, Emma Bernier, Norman Bernier, Clement Bernier, Antoinette “Toni” Letourneau, Maurice Bernier, Theodore Bernier, and Raymond Bernier.
Her funeral will be Monday, February 5, 2024 at 9 a.m. from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
