Born in Fairhaven, Joan was the treasured daughter of the late Frank P. Aguiar and Elsie M. (Silva) Tarini. She was the beloved wife of the late Theodore Joseph Fournier, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage filled with steadfast love and devotion.
Joan lived her life with a quiet grace that left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness was steady, her presence comforting, and her love for family unwavering.
Her faith was a guiding light. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Joan found strength and peace in her devotion to God. She also became a familiar and welcoming face to many during her years as a cashier at Almac’s Supermarket. Her warm smile and easy conversation brightened the days of countless customers.
Beyond her work and faith, Joan found great joy in dancing. She especially cherished her time dancing with Victor Fonseca’s and his Senior Steppers. Senior Steppers brought her laughter, friendship, and a sense of youthful delight that never faded. She also loved to sing and found comfort in the companionship of her beloved cats throughout the years.
She is survived by her son, Richard W. Fournier and his wife Michelle of New Bedford; her daughter, Donna M. Travers and her significant other, David Vieira of New Bedford; her grandson, Alex J. Travers; and her granddaughter, Sydney A. Fournier.
Joan will be remembered for her gentle heart, her devotion to family, and ability to make others smile and laugh. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to those around her, and her memory will be treasured always.
The family sends a special thank you and loving appreciation to all her caregivers at The Oaks and her Community Nurse Team.
