Joel M. Ormonde

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Joseph M. Ormonde and Julia (Farias) McCarthy he was a local lifetime resident of the SouthCoast.

Joel owned and operated J.O. Auto Sales in New Bedford for over 50 years. The car lot was a place everyone knew they could show up and hangout. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends across the east coast to attend various swap meets and county fairs. He also enjoyed camping, Antique cars, car shows and ice cream. For all that knew Joel, they know he was the king of puns. He never missed an opportunity for a wise crack or joke.

He is survived by two daughters, Janel Ormonde and her fiancé Mike Therrien of Lakeville and Jodie Perry and her husband Daniel of Acushnet; siblings, Raymond England and his wife Linda of N. Dartmouth, Diana Boswell and her husband Ronald of New Bedford, Joseph Ormonde and his wife Leslie of S. Dartmouth, and Jeffrey Ormonde and his late wife Barbara of S. Dartmouth; grandchildren, Amber Harrington and her husband Kevin, Johnathan Cabral, Hayley Medeiros, Hannah Medeiros, Heather Medeiros, Daniel Perry Jr. and Leah Perry; one great grandchild, Logan Cabral; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Justine C. Holland.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford with a service at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
