John Chavier Jr.

Born in Providence, RI, a son of the late John Sr. and Mary Chavier, John graduated from both the Eastern Nazarene College and Bridgewater State College. A school teacher in the Fairhaven School Department for many years before retiring, he was also a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford. An excellent vocalist, he sang at many church functions.

He was also choir director, church deacon and a member of the Acapella Men's Choir in college. An avid runner, John also played basketball and football, and coached the girls Zeta basketball Team at Eastern Nazarene College. He volunteered as a mentor to young boys in the Big Brother Program He lived in Fairhaven for 45 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary Chavier and his wife Rachel of Rochester, MA; a daughter, Renee Perron and her husband Robert of Tiverton, RI; a brother Tony Chavier of Cumberland, RI; three grandchildren, Gabrielle Perron, Caleb Perron and Jacob Chavier. He was also the brother of the late Rev. Manuel Chavier and Jennie Chavier.

A Memorial Service is planned for November 3, 2012 at10AM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford. Arrangements are in the care of the ROCK Funeral Home, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford, MA 02740.
