Jorge Benevides

Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (DaCosta) Benevides. Mr. Benevides was a machine operator at AFC until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, raising cattle, history and politics. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his two sons; Paul Benevides and his wife Maria of New Bedford, Peter Benevides and his wife Kelly of New Bedford, one daughter; Lucy Hassey of South Dartmouth, five grandchildren; Nicholas, Thomas, Christina and Kennedy Benevides and Alexandria Macedo all of New Bedford, one brother; Alsuino Cordeiro and his wife Maria of New Bedford. He was the father-in-law of Timothy Macedo. He was the father of the late Laura Macedo. He was the brother of the late Anibal Cordeiro.

His funeral will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 9 am at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5-8 pm. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development and the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West Floor 6, Brookline, MA 02445.
