Jose F. Resendes

José (Joe) Francisco Resendes passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, after a short illness. He was sixty five years old. Joe was the loving father of Stephanie Resendes and her fiancé John Ledoux, and Gregory Resendes, all of New Bedford, MA. He was predeceased by his younger sister Maria Angelina.

Joe was born in Saint Miguel, Azores, Portugal in 1953. In 1964 his family immigrated to the United States, which was the birthplace of his grandfather for whom he was named.

Joe was a proud employee of Johnson and Johnson (Raynham, MA) for over 35 years before retiring. He spent his retirement enjoying his family and friends.

Joe was a man of exemplary character who wore a constant smile and always took the high road in life. He could often be seen enjoying Portuguese food with family and friends at one of the local restaurants or taking his daily stroll with various walking partners. His proudest accomplishment was his beloved children Stephanie and Greg. It was them that made him smile most and gave him his greatest purpose. Joe also enjoyed a strong relationship with all his siblings, their spouses and his nieces and nephews. Together, they created countless memories.

Joe was the brother of Connie Nogueira (Resendes) of Roanoke, VA, Zenaide Noia (Resendes) and her husband Vitorino of New Bedford, MA, and Antonio Resendes and his wife Andrea of Rochester, MA. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

His funeral will be held at 9am on Monday, April 8, 2019 from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA. His Funeral Mass will immediately follow at St. John Neumann Church,157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown at 10am. Visiting Hours will be held Sunday, April 7 from 3-6pm at Rock Funeral Home.
