Mr. Almond was a lifelong New Bedford resident and was the son of the late Milton and Hazel (Mosher) Almond.
Joseph worked as a crane operator at the Chamberlain Company for 30 years. He was a bus driver for the Reliable Bus Lines and was a Constable for the City of New Bedford. He was a Vietnam War veteran serving in the United States Army and was a member of the Dartmouth Rod and Gun Club as well as a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his two sons; Michael A. Almond of New Bedford, Robert J. Almond and his wife Diane of New Bedford, and one grandchild; Nathan Ryan Almond of New Bedford.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 3-5pm at ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Hawthorn Medical Cancer Center/St. Anne's Hospital Radiation Center, 537 Faunce Corner Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
