Pat was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA in 1939, a son of the late Patrick J. and Mary (Hannon) Conway. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960 aboard the U.S.S. Pillsbury. The friendships he made during his time in the Navy brought him to New England, where he worked as a machinist at Duall Engineering. In 1987 he relocated to California's Bay area. There, he continued to work as a machinist at M.A.R.’s Engineering in San Leandro, CA until he retired at the age of 78. Pat was a devoted employee and took an incredible amount of pride in his work. After retirement, Pat moved back to New Bedford, MA to be closer to his family.
He was a sports fan and an avid supporter of our New England teams. In his spare time, Pat enjoyed playing sports like hockey, baseball, and bowling. He coached little league for Danny's Auto body and bowling at Wonder Bowl. He cultivated a sports memorabilia collection. He also enjoyed coin collecting and never met a penny he didn't pick up to inspect for errors. But there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Conway of New Bedford, Shelly Conway of Dartmouth, and Sean Conway of Texas; five grandchildren, Seahra Neely, Shaylee Olive, Shannah Neely, Chad Conway-Bull, and Elliott Civitarese; three great grandchildren, Shawn, Anakin, and Lani; siblings, Mary Conway and Thomas Conway both of PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John F. and James M. Conway.
Pat was an incredibly kind and generous person and was always searching for ways to make someone else’s day better. He had a playful spirit and continued to be silly and make jokes right up to the end. His absence will be felt by many. He will be greatly missed.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. All other services are private. For online tribute: please visit www.rock-funeralhome.com
