

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Carvalho) Machado, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1954.
Mrs. Amaral had worked as a waitress at the Carriage Inn Restaurant in the north end of New Bedford for many years. She was the first president of the Correctional Wives Association in the early 1970’s, and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Michael William Amaral and wife Diane of Atlanta, GA, and William Ronald Amaral and Mark Ronald Amaral both of New Bedford; a sister, Lorraine Austin and her husband William of Eureka, SD; a brother, John Machado of Derry, NH and his daughter Stephanie Machado; five grandchildren, Nicholas Amaral, Jessica Marie Amaral, Joseph Mark Amaral and fiancé Xuanmai, Ashley Whelan Amaral and Corrie Lee Amaral; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Katherine Amaral and Cara Marie Amaral; and her beloved dogs, Bailey and the late Cricket.
Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 9 AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4256 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Burial is private.
